What a surprise it was to receive a phone call from Bats Birds Yard owner Phil Brodak one day, telling me I had won the sweepstakes by purchasing one of his finely constructed bat houses. I chose the Double Cell Deluxe Club House to accommodate more than one bat and, hopefully, babies. The dark brown color of outdoor paint I chose is nicely offset by the solid metal roof and gold colored insignia and name plate. I’ve attached it to the shed behind my house, with a warm southern exposure and shelter from winter winds and rain from adjoining fir trees. The house and mosquitoes are there for food and shelter; a perfect spot for a hungry bat.

Mrs. C.A. in Lansing, Mi. purchased a Triple Cell bat house painted black and had Batsbirdsyard install her new bat house on a single pole mounting bracket system with a 2 3/8 inch steel pole system. She has an ideal location for keeping the bats around her yard after they were evicted from the resident house structure. The family has a nice pond with fresh flowing water, and a lot of plants in her yard for the bats to feast on the insects which makes for an ideal bat habitat.

Spring is only two days away. March 20/2012 is the first day of spring and you should make an inspection of your Bat Houses and Bird Houses.
This is also a great time for replacement or new installation.
Bird Houses should have any old nesting removed and make sure they are mounted securely. Also check and see if you have any unwanted bee nests. Look at the entrance hole to make sure the squirrels have not destroyed the size of the opening. You may need to replace the front panel or even replace the bird house.
Bat houses need to be checked to make sure you have no split wood. If you find wood split then caulk the cracks and repaint or stain the bat house.Make sure you use an exterior latex material. Also check to make sure there are no Mud Dauber ( wasp) nests on the inside or attached to the outside of the bat house.If so remove them.
