Maybe it was made from scrap lumber that you removed from a construction site, or perhaps it was simply a large cardboard box from your neighbor’s new appliances? What ever it was, it was all yours! If your buddies were lucky, you might tell them were it was so they could come over after school or on weekends and do things that your parents told you not to because you might get hurt. What great memories!

How would you like to regain your youth in your own private lodge, deep within your wooded property? Wouldn’t it be GREAT to have a place that you could go to just relax and forget your everyday hectic life? Enjoy every day to the fullest! You only live once, so give it a try!

Construction Details

  1. We are not like some of the other tree house builders who use existing trees to build their units in. We prefer to build a free-standing unit and use a tree or two within an opening space of the deck area for added attraction. With our approach, there is no danger or harm to the existing trees.

  2. Our basic lodge measurements are eight feet wide by 12 feet long with a six foot ceiling height.

  3. The lodge unit sits on a deck that measures 11 feet long by 12 feet wide with a 22 degree angle deck that measure 12 feet wide by 12.5 feet long. It is a large, usable deck area of 220 square feet. (A larger deck area can be added.)

  4. The deck area is constructed with Northern Cedar logs that are four to six inches in diameter. Logs are treated with a waterproofing material and set in the ground a minimum of 42”. All logs also serve as the post for the handrail around the perimeter of the deck. Each log is set four feet apart for added support. With center supports running parallel to the outside framing on the underside of the deck.

  5. All framing structure is of treated 2” x 6” lumber bolted to all of the supporting posts as required and hung off of joist hangers. Once the 2” x 6” treated deck area is complete, we use cable and turnbuckle cross ties to ensure the least amount of stress on the structure. The structure needs to move somewhat and is designed to do so.

  6. Upon completion of the deck, we construct a conventional stick built house with 2” x 4” framing for the walls.

  7. Rafters are 2” x 6”, 16” o.c.

  8. The roof has a built-in vent-a-ridge system and is covered with a 30-year dimensional shingle. Shingles are dark green in color.

  9. Roof, walls, and sub flooring are all sheeted with ½” CDX material and 30 lb. felt paper.

  10. Headers over all window and door openings are 2” x 6”.

  11. The finished outside walls are constructed out of 8” White Pine tongue and grooved half logs with minimal exposed fasteners and mitered outside corners.

  12. All rake edge boards are covered with the same half log material so it appears that the rafters are made of logs from the outside end view.

  13. The finished floor is of wood grain style linoleum over the sub flooring which is 7/16” CDX sheeting.

  14. The tree lodge includes two fold up beds, one on each wall. They are mounted to the wall and hinged so they can be folded up against the wall if you wish to or you can leave then down for a place to sit while you and your school buddies play poker until the early morning hours.

  15. The entire surface of the bed frames are covered with 1” foam padding then covered with a light tan colored indoor/outdoor carpet.

  16. The lodge has three window areas with slider type screens for warm summer nights and removeable slider windows for nights that may be a little cooler.

  17. The front entrance door is also screened in with a removable storm window.

  18. The unit has plenty of room for shelves to be installed or we can even set you up with a couple at no cost.

  19. We have also provided a large shelf area for a microwave or whatever you want to put on it. The shelf area is high enough above the floor so a small refrigerator can be slipped in underneath it.

  20. The stairway system is constructed out of treated lumber and built according to national standards.

  21. The stairway handrail is constructed out of distorted logs to give an extra touch of the outdoors.

  22. Once all of the above work is completed, we install an aluminum railing system between the upright posts and the wood top rail. (A log railing system is available at an additional charge.)

  23. We remove all debris from the job site upon completion of our work.

  24. As a finishing touch, we supply a handcrafted wall sign for over your doorway with any name that you wish to use for your new lodge.
