Classic Wood Privy
Prices starting at $11,695. Delivery Questionnaire |
Remember hearing your grandparents or great grandparents talk about having to walk outdoors to use the privy? Well maybe you don’t remember. That’s okay too. But if you are a hunter or outdoors person, you know what the word Privy means.
If you have ever traveled through the rural areas of our country, you’ve most likely come across one or two of them. Even our National Parks systems utilize privies in this day in age. If you own a large piece of property 10, 20, 30 acres or more then you probably know what it is like to be caught outside with no facilities nearby.
Privies are still used in this day and age of high technology and they still get the job done when there is no source of water and/or electricity. Privies are not only practical and useful for your big outdoor parties; they also make a great conversation piece!
Why have a Porta Potty sitting in your yard for a summer party when you can have an attractive, natural-looking unit on your property tucked away in the woods year-round.
This unit can also do double duty as a tool shed if you wish.
Features:
NOTE: The unit can be wired for lights both inside and outside. We do not do any electrical work.
Construction Details
- The pit area is dug out then lined with vertical 2”x 6” tongue and grooved pressure-treated wood planks.
- The main frame work (floor) is constructed with 2” x 8” treated joist laid out 16”o.c.
- The floor is 5/8” exterior grade sheeting fastened to the joist with ring shank nails and adhesive. The floor is finished in wood grain linoleum for easy cleaning.
- The wall structure is constructed with 2” x 4” laid out 16” o.c
- The roof joists are 2” x 6” laid out 16” o.c. Roof joist is of an open faced construction with no fascia board and vented at the top with an interior insect screen installed. The roof is covered with Hand Split Cedar Shake wood shingles with 30 lb. felt between each course of shingle.
- Sheeting for the walls and roof is 7/16” CDX sheeting attached with ring shank nails and covered with a layer of 30 lb. felt paper.
- The outside walls are rough cut Pine slab wood of different thickness and width with all the knots for an authentic look of old craftsmenship attached over the sheeting with galvanized ring shank nails. All seams of the logs are sealed and set into a 50 year sealant. All corners are caulked and mitered.
- Around the complete perimeter of the walls 24” green corrugated Plexiglas allows natural light into the structure. At night with a light inside it looks really COOL in the woods. (We used the old railroad lamps inside of ours before we put in the electrical service.)
- The interior is equipped with a five foot long stainless steel urinal complete with drain outlet, rear splash guard and a built-in shelf.
- The seat area is constructed with 5/8” plywood then the top and front face is covered with stainless steel with a swirl pattern finish. To finish the seat area off, we install a standard flip up seat like you would have in a bathroom inside your house.
- The interior walls of the private seating area are covered with paneling, as are both sides of the stall door. All doors have a rustic privacy latch on the interior sides.
- The main entrance door has two decorative cutouts in the door, a Quarter Moon and a Star. The cutout areas are covered with an insect screen.
- Amenities include a tissue holder, paper towel holder, several small shelves, a magazine rack and a mirror. If you collect old signs they also look neat on the walls.
- All privy units are precut and semi-manufactured in our yard. We then deliver the sections and finish the construction on the job site.
- We can dig the hole or you can. Just let use know what you want.
