Bird House Construction
All of our bird houses are designed and constructed with the same skill and craftsmanship as our bat houses. They also have their own special added design features which are listed below.
- All of our bird houses are designed to attract different species of birds. This is determined by the diameter and shape of the entrance hole and the height of the floor in relation to the entrance opening along with additional requirements for certain species. Actual size of the house plays a big part.
- All bird houses walls are designed with an overlap joint, caulked with a 50 year caulking at each joint, then screwed with a brass plated finish screw.

- All bird houses are designed with a door and a double pin sacrament system for easy cleaning of the interior. Your bird house should be cleaned out at least once a year, preferably twice. Late fall and early spring are the best times to do the cleaning, yearly check up, and any maintenance as may be required.
- All floors are designed with weep holes to allow for water drainage even though the construction is of a water-tight design.
- A 1/2 inch raised wire mesh floor is inserted over the wood floor to allow for positive air flow beneath the nest. This helps keep the nesting material dry and discourage the growth of a common bacteria which is commonly called Salmonellosis.
- All roof designs are of a water tight design, set in a 50 year caulking, and screwed in place with brass plated finish screws.
- On flush mounted designs, we provide two pre drilled holes for easy attachment.
- On hanging bird houses, we install a water tight hook and nut system in the roof for easy suspension.
- If you intend to attach your bird house on top of a log or pole, we will install a base plate two inches wider than the base of the bird house OR we can make the house walls three inches longer so it can drop over a 4”x 4” post.
- We ship a small pouch of wood shavings for nesting with each bird house.
